The Fool's Journey in Three Acts
Readers often group the Major Arcana into a story. Act 1 (I–VII): learning about the world — skills, intuition, nurture, structure, tradition, love and willpower. Act 2 (VIII–XIV): learning about yourself — strength, reflection, fate, fairness, surrender, endings and balance. Act 3 (XV–XXI): confronting shadows and finding meaning — temptation, upheaval, hope, illusion, joy, awakening and completion.
Quick Memory Tricks
- Even numbers in the first act are often receptive (High Priestess, Emperor, Lovers); odd numbers active.
- Cards with 'light' imagery (Star, Sun, World) lean positive.
- Cards with falling, chains or night imagery (Tower, Devil, Moon) are warnings — not doom.
